Auditions!!

Tiptoe Through the Tombstones directed by Becki Gooch

Auditions are Dec. 6th and 7th at 6 p.m. at the theater.
Becki needs 6 women and 4 men, high school age and up.

Show dates are Jan 28-30 and Feb 5-7. Please be prepared to rehearse five days a week.

The show takes place in England but the family members travel from all over, so Becki is looking for a few interesting accents. This will be a fun show both to perform and to watch, as evidenced by the following characters:

Vernon Prewitt - stereotypical homosexual. limp-wristed with over emphasized facial expressions, hired to do the cleaning for the arrival of the Tomb family
Edna Honeywill - dim looking young girl with frizzy hair and round glasses that make her look much like a frightened owl, hired to play the maid for the arrival of the Tomb family
Zoe Mapleton - Harsh looking woman who works as the secretary to Mortimer Crayle
Mortimer Crayle - Tomb family solicitor, older gentlemen, with a bad hairpiece.
Octavia Tomb - Tomb family cousin, gaunt and deathly pale reminiscent of Widow Twankey in Aladdin. She believes she can communicate with the dead.
Henrietta Tomb - Tomb family cousin, stout woman who wears sensible clothing and a permanent scowl
Augustus Tomb - Tomb family cousin, a pompous monocle wearing individual who speaks in loud, booming tones.
Athene Tomb - Tomb family cousin, fluttery to the point of appearing ditzy and highly strung, but feminine with pink accessories
Larry Lewiss - a young man who works as a clown at children's birthday parties but gets trapped at the Tomb residence when his van wrecks outside the front gate
Fabia Tomb - Tomb family cousin, slightly overweight, totters about on extra high heels in slightly revealing clothes, giggly, flirtatious, and loud in every sense of the word,

Character Breakdowns

JESUS- Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow.

JOHN THE BAPTIST/JUDAS- He has attributes of both biblical figures: he is both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic but in more of an overt revolutionary way. Usually played be someone handsome and masculine, with an undertone of sexuality. He is the most "serious" and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, he must still posses a good sense of physical comedy.

JEFFREY- Very high energy. Impish and playful. In the original he played many musical instruments, however this is not necessary.

LAMAR- Not the brightest in the bunch, he is a little slow on the uptake. But there is a great sweetness and innocence about him.

HERB- The comedian, the class clown. The guy who can do a hundred voices and imitations.

ROBIN- A bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. She is the first to open up and commit to following Jesus.

JOANNE- The confident one, the show off. The first one to volunteer, sometimes she jumps in before she really understands what's going on.

PEGGY- The shy one. Sometimes slow to get things, but when she does she commits all the way. Has an "earth mother" kind of warmth to her.

GILMER- The female equivalent of the class clown. Goofy and a cut-up.

SONIA- Sassy and slightly cynical, the most urban of the group. Also the "sexy" one, but her sexiness contains a large element of put-on, in the manner of Mae West or Madonna (who in fact once played this role.)

In addition to each individual being able to stand out, it is important that all be able to function as an ensemble, without feeling that any one (other that Jesus) stands out above the others. Other traits to be considered are comic ability and skill in improvisation.
